Technology & Innovation Strategy

Kordsa conducts approximately 10-12 million dollars of annual R&D expenditures. The company prepares technology roadmaps tailored to each business unit through periodic cross-functional collaborations in line with the company's strategies, technology, and market trends. These roadmaps serve as guiding documents for planning R&D projects. In these activities, which determine the company's short, medium, and long-term priorities in Technology & Innovation, common strategic areas in all business domains have been identified as sustainability, digitalization, and business continuity.

We use a hybrid approach of trade secrets and patents for comprehensive IP protection and have developed a smart project and patent portfolio management system to optimize protection and alignment with business goals.

Our cross-functional teams prioritize projects based on strategic value, technical feasibility, and market potential, making informed decisions to maximize returns and minimize risks, resulting in a robust patent portfolio reinforcing our market leadership.

Founded in 1973, Kordsa significantly accelerated its research, development, engineering, and innovation activities with the establishment of its Global R&D Center, which gained an official structure in 2008. Initially focused on tire reinforcement, the center has evolved over time with an incubation-oriented approach, expanding its scope to include composite reinforcement, composite technologies, and thin film & flexible electronics

Operating across four continents, Kordsa’s Global Technology Center is located in Izmit, supported by a Composite Center of Excellence in Istanbul specializing in composite reinforcement. Guided by the motto “Creating Innovation Everywhere,” Kordsa established a new Technology Center in Indonesia in 2023 dedicated to tire reinforcement, a Technology Center in Germany supporting composite technologies, and another Technology Center in North America conducting R&D activities in the composites field

Our high-capacity laboratories within these technology centers enable us to carry out research and development activities in a reliable, efficient, and sustainable manner
